Junior alpine ski equipment selection guide: weight first, height second, then ability and rules
2026–2027

Ski Equipment Calculator

U14 & Below recommendations based on weight first, then height, strength, ability and event — matched to actual published manufacturer models and sizes.

General guidance only
Confirm final equipment with coach, race dealer and qualified boot/binding technician.

How to Use This Guide

Start with the athlete’s weight to establish the appropriate ski length and construction range. Then use height, strength, technical ability, and level of development to refine the recommendation. When an athlete falls between two sizes, a lighter or developing skier should generally favor the shorter or softer option, while a stronger, more technically advanced skier may be better suited to the longer or more substantial construction.

  • Slalom (SL): Target approximately mid-forehead height, generally within ±5 cm, while considering athlete weight, strength, and ski construction.
  • Giant Slalom (GS): Target approximately head height, then adjust based on the athlete’s strength, technical development, and the construction of the ski.
  • Super-G (SG): Do not simply choose a ski because it is longer than the athlete’s GS ski. Follow the appropriate age-group and athlete-development pathway, then confirm that the ski and radius comply with current competition rules.

Athlete inputs

Weight sets the starting band; height and development level refine the target within that band.

Manufacturer ski recommendations

The target is the calculator’s developmental recommendation. Each manufacturer row then selects the closest size that company actually publishes. “Delta” shows how far the available ski is above (+) or below (−) the calculated target.

Boot recommendations

Boot size is not selected from height or weight. The Mondo entry is treated only as the measured foot-length starting point. Shell fit, foot volume, cuff height/alignment, ankle range of motion and functional flex must be checked in person. A nominally stiffer boot may be appropriate when its shell/cuff features create the better fit and the flex can subsequently be modified.

Published source notes used in this build

This tool deliberately separates manufacturer-published product information from the calculator’s developmental selection logic. It is not a binding-release calculator and does not replace U.S. Ski & Snowboard rules, coach judgment, professional boot fitting or certified binding adjustment/testing.
